Leanne McIvor

Are you a busy working mum trying to juggle caring for kids, workplace demands, housework, school? Stuck in a rut? Going to gym classes but never seeing any changes? Trying diet after diet but still looking the same or even heavier? Well, that was me.

I’m a 39-year-old District Nurse and mum of two. I’ve always been active, always went to gym classes but always struggled with my weight. I would fluctuate at the 10 ½ - 11 stone mark. Although I was never ‘overweight’ as such, I just couldn’t seem to achieve the shape or definition that I wanted. Despite being a nurse, I had a bad relationship with food and poor knowledge about nutrition and balanced eating. When I qualified in nursing in 2003 there was little focus on nutrition. I’ve tried every diet out there – the cereal diet, juicing, souping, Slimfast, Atkins, Herbalife, thermogenics etc. None of them worked long term.

I started going to Martin’s circuit class in January 2018 and as my fitness improved, boot camp and then eventually boxing classes. This is when I started to lose weight. But when I looked in the mirror, despite going to these classes and my hard work, I still didn’t like what I saw and looked soft. I wanted to be toned and see muscle definition. Also, looking back now, I was permanently exhausted, lacked concentration, could sleep constantly but never slept well and experienced what I can only describe as brain fog. I just thought it was normal for a busy working mum to feel like this.

The third lockdown hit me very hard. I wouldn’t say I was depressed but I felt really really low. I barely did any exercise; comfort ate and my weight crept up. Instead of dwelling on things that were out with my control and feeling sorry for myself I knew I needed to do something about it. I had seen the transformations of some of Martin’s clients online and in person and also spoke to a few clients. Their enthusiasm when talking about Martin and his coaching was inspiring. I also liked his no nonsense attitude, dedication and passion that he has to his job/clients. It was at this point I knew I needed Martin’s knowledge and guidance to help me achieve the weight loss and physique that I aspired to have. I also turn 40 in October so felt this was a realistic time frame in order to achieve it. My pre lockdown exercise regime didn’t lead to the toned body I’d hoped I’d have so I knew that not only did I need a personal trainer but someone that could help me with nutrition. It was only after becoming a client, did I realise how closely nutrition and exercise results are linked.

With Martin, there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach. It’s individual and tailored to what is manageable for you. We discussed training, nutrition and lifestyle changes that were realistic for me. This involved 4 training sessions a week, done in my own living room lasting no longer than 45 mins. Martin also taught me about calories and managing my macronutrients. This was the game changer for me. 12 weeks on, I’m the leanest and toned I’ve ever been in my life, including pre kids. I feel amazing! Both physically and mentally. The brain fog has disappeared, I have so much more energy, I sleep well and wake up feeling rested and ready for the day! I think for the first time in my life I feel confident about myself and like what I see in the mirror.

The TeamTank support group are like a family. They have inspired, motivated and supported me throughout my journey and Martin is there for you 24/7. He really is a fountain of knowledge and most importantly he cares. If you’re putting in 100%, Martin will really go out of his way to help you achieve your goals.

I’ve managed to achieve this all whilst working, being a mum, having a husband that works away from home, studying at University and dealing with all the stresses that life throws at you. For this I’m extremely proud. Hopefully I can inspire other working mums and show that with some thought, determination, hard work and preparation it is totally achievable! There’s no crazy fad starvation diets or countless gym classes here. It’s about finding what works for you and subsequently achieving long term sustainable results.

The way I was feeling before I became a client impacted every aspect of my life. Joining TeamTank was the best decision I ever made. I have enjoyed every minute of it. This is a way of life for me now and I plan to continue on this journey. I cannot recommend or speak highly enough of Martin and my fellow TeamTankers.
